Jake Futernick

A lifelong storyteller

After graduating from Emerson College in Writing, Literature and Publishing, I worked in the magazine and newspaper space. I was a freelance writer at GQ, Esquire, The Boston Globe and served as the Creative Director at Law of Inertia, an early aughts Brooklyn based music magazine.

From there I transitioned to visual storytelling working at Current TV. I produced, directed, shot and edited various human interest pieces, usually with a humorous bent. This led me everywhere from gay gun clubs to exotic pet owners reverse protesting PETA, and I even masqueraded as a late 20’s undergrad to get a good story.

I jumped to short form video production for over a decade with Micro Documentaries, a pioneer in digital content creation. There, I produced hundreds of 2-4 minute videos across the country and around the world as a one-man band. This was a great opportunity to hone my skills as an adaptable and nimble documentarian.

A new role in life, that of full time dad, has expanded my perspectives and firmly rooted me in the community of Los Angeles.

Currently working in the freelance space, I’m always excited to collaborate with new clients and help execute whatever the vision might be. Whether it’s branded content, an EPK for a studio production, social media marketing or feature length documentaries, I can identify and express a story that resonates.
